Srinagar, Feb 18: In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Jammu and Kashmir on February 20th, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar Birdi, has directed officers to ensure heightened vigilance, particularly during night-hours, to mitigate the risk of terrorist threats.
A joint meeting was convened at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, attended by senior officers from various security agencies including the police, Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB, CISF, as well as state and Central intelligence agencies.
During the meeting, comprehensive briefings were provided by participating officers regarding security plans devised for upcoming events in Jammu and Kashmir, including the VVIP event featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The primary objective of the meeting was to comprehensively review and strengthen security arrangements in view of visits by VVIPs to the Union Territory, as well as other impending events.
IGP Kashmir Birdi emphasized the delicate balance between security needs and the smooth conduct of events, urging officers to prioritize intelligence and anti-terror efforts to minimize the risk of untoward incidents. Special attention was advised to enhance security along critical areas such as the National Highway, tunnels, minority pickets, and other vulnerable points.
Specific directives were issued to intensify security measures, including surprise naka checks, 24×7 patrolling, and increased presence at entry and exit points of the district, particularly in both uptown and downtown areas of Srinagar.
The importance of adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) amidst heightened security concerns was underscored, with a critical need for thorough monitoring of vulnerable areas and prompt action against suspicious activities.
Furthermore, IGP Birdi stressed the significance of collective vigilance and proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors to the Kashmir valley.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials from various security forces and intelligence agencies, both physically and virtually, demonstrating a coordinated approach towards bolstering security measures.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to inaugurate a series of projects worth Rs 3161 crores on February 20 , followed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to the Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur on February 24th.
In light of these events, security forces in Kashmir have been placed on high alert, engaging in random vehicle checks and establishing special inspection points as precautionary measures across the city and its surroundings.
