In its ongoing election campaign and public outreach program, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday organized public meetings in the Charar-e-Sharief and Shopian constituencies. During the campaign trail, Party’s Youth President and candidate for Pulwama and Srinagar constituency Waheed ur Rehman Parra, addressed the public meetings.

In Charar-e-Sharief, he was welcomed by the party’s General Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjoora, and the party’s senior leader Mohd Yasin Bhat, who greeted him with enthusiasm and solidarity. Addressing the workers, Hanjoora highlighted the sufferings faced by the party’s Youth President, Waheed Parra, over the past several years. He said that Parra was not allowed to take oath despite being democratically elected by the people through the ballot. He urged the party’s workers to strengthen the party at the grassroots level and encouraged them to spread the vision of the party president, Mehbooba Mufti, at the doorsteps of the people. He emphasized that the PDP would represent the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the parliament if voted to power.

Addressing the workers in the Charar-e-Sharief constituency, Parra urged the youth to actively participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections by exercising their right to vote. He stated, “The youth are the backbone of our society, and their participation is crucial in shaping the direction of our democracy.”

While interacting with the youth of the Charar-e- sharief constituency, Parra said, “Your vote is your voice, and it is through active engagement in the electoral process that we can bring about positive change and address the issues facing the youth of Kashmir on a daily basis.” He assured that he would represent the aspirations and concerns of the people effectively at the national level if elected in the upcoming elections.

On this occasion, Parra paid obeisance at the sacred Ziyarat-e-Sharif Sheikh Ul Aalam (RA) Charar-e-sharief. Charar-e-Sharief is a revered shrine that holds immense historical and religious significance and symbolizes the unity and harmony of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Parra prayed for the peace, prosperity, and stability of Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirming their commitment to the well-being of the region and its people.

Parra received a rousing reception in the Shopian constituency during the Public meeting. He was accompanied by the party’s constituency incharge, Yawar Banday, who urged the party’s workers to come out in large numbers this time to vote for Waheed Parra.

Speaking on the occasion, Parra urged the people to vote this time to make Kashmir safer for Kashmiris and not just more beautiful for tourists. He emphasized that while tourism plays a vital role in the economy, efforts should not prioritize beautification at the expense of the safety and welfare of the people. “We cannot afford to overlook the pressing issues that affect Kashmiris on a daily basis,” he added. “Our focus should be on addressing the root causes of unrest, ensuring justice, and fostering an environment where every Kashmiri feels secure and empowered.”(KNS)
