Baramulla, Nov 08: Senior Vice President of J&K Peoples Conference and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil on Wednesday expressed concern and anguish over the power crisis in the valley.
While touring various villages of Rafiabad and Sopore including Tarzowa, Sangrama, Zalura, Marazigund and Yarbug, Vakil said, “It is surprising that it is at the beginning of the winter season, the power crisis has started and asked what would be the position of power when the full winter season begins. The people have been forced to go without electricity for days together both in the metered and unmetered areas. The power crisis is so bad that people are rendered helpless in the absence of electricity and thereby the present power crisis has exposed the tall claims of UT administration of enhancing energy supply.”
Vakil said the government exists on statements and meetings only and has “failed on all fronts”. He said unscheduled power cuts have aggravated the woes of people in the valley and despite a load-shedding schedule, unscheduled and frequent power cuts continue unabated and people are facing massive inconvenience due to power cuts. “There is no schedule for power which is causing a lot of inconvenience to the general public, especially the old and ailing as well as students who are making preparations for different examinations,” he said.
The PC leader exhorted the UT government to take immediate steps to implement its own schedule in letter and spirit and make all preparations and arrangements for supplying power to the people in the coming full winter season.
