Handwara, Jan 23: Despite the passing of more than 2.5 months, the government of Jammu and Kashmir has yet to fill the vacant Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) post in Handwara, causing significant inconvenience to the local population.
Residents of Subdivision Handwara told Rising Kashmir that they have been facing numerous hardships due to the absence of an ADC, even for minor administrative matters.
The locals said that the previous ADC was transferred to the Chief Minister’s office, but no replacement has been appointed despite the prolonged vacancy. This has left the people struggling with issues that require the ADC’s attention.
Mir Imran, a resident of Handwara, expressed his disappointment, stating, “After the formation of the civil government, we expected relief, but instead, we are deprived of an ADC, forcing us to wait for long periods to get our work done.” He added that although several senior officials are available in the General Administration Department (GAD), the government has not shown seriousness in appointing one for Handwara.
Residents have repeatedly urged the administration to address the issue. “We have been requesting the government to appoint an ADC here, so people do not have to suffer any further,” Imran said.
Aijaz Ahmed, a resident of Rajwar, shared his resentment, stating that he has been waiting for the ADC’s presence to avail the dependent suffragette certificate, which remains impossible without an official appointment.
The people of the area have warned that if their demand is not met soon, they will have no option but to stage protests. They have urged the government to prioritize the matter and appoint an ADC at the earliest to address their grievances.
