SRINAGAR, DEC 31: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan concluded his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, focusing on improving governance and strengthening security in the region.
During his visit, Mohan chaired a high-level meeting with Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Commissioner Secretaries of various departments, and other senior officials.
The discussions centered around evaluating the implementation of key centrally sponsored flagship schemes, including One Nation, One Ration Card, PM Mudra Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, Bharat Jal Jeevan Mission, Smart City Mission, and Broadband Connectivity initiatives.
Sources told Rising Kashmir that the Union Home Secretary urged the state machinery to ensure that the benefits of these schemes directly reach the common people. He emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between governance and grassroots beneficiaries, calling for the timely completion of targets to improve the quality of life for residents in Jammu and Kashmir. Officials briefed Mohan on the progress of these schemes and highlighted steps taken to ensure that the last deserving person is reached. The Home Secretary stressed the need for a more aggressive approach to ensure last-mile delivery and the inclusion of all deserving beneficiaries.
In addition to the review of governance-related schemes, Mohan also assessed the progress of infrastructure and employment-driven projects. He emphasized that these initiatives are vital for the socio-economic upliftment of the Union Territory and expressed satisfaction with the progress made in some sectors. However, he urged a more determined approach to ensure the timely completion of these projects, particularly in reaching all the targeted beneficiaries.
On the security front, Mohan conducted a separate security review meeting on Monday with senior officials from various security agencies. He directed the agencies to take decisive action against terror networks and their supporters in the region. The Home Secretary reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism and instructed security forces to strengthen the “Area Domination Plan” and “Zero Terror Plan” in order to create a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir. He praised the security forces for their coordination in tackling terrorism and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between agencies.
