Two residential houses were damaged by landslides in the Nambla area of Uri subdivision on Wednesday. The landslides occured in the area after incessant rains hit parts of north Kashmir from last many days.
Locals said that two houses, belonging to Showket Shah and his son Mustaq Shah located in Silapathar Nambla Uri, were damaged after landslides occured in the area.
Mustaq Ahmad Shah told Rising Kashmir that his house was damaged on April 28, while his father’s house was affected last night.
Expressing disappointment over the lack of protection measures, Mustaq Shah blamed the PMGSY for negligence.
He claimed that the road construction in their area, which began in 2017, is yet to be completed which led to the landslides in the area.
“Due to the absence of protection walls on the road, many families are vulnerable to the threat of landslides,” he added.
However, AEE PMGSY Uri Khursheed Ahmad Mir denied the allegations and cited the severe nature of the landslides caused by the incessant rains.
Tehsildar Uri Rayees Ahmad stated that the revenue department assessed the losses after a team visited the site.
Officials from the PMGSY department were also summoned to the location.
He said that as a precautionary measure, the locals were advised to remain alert and cautious.
