Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

A Police spokesperson said, “As part of its ongoing and relentless campaign against drug suppliers, Anantnag Police remain steadfast in their commitment to bringing every drug peddler to justice. In a recent operation, a Police team from Police Post Shairbagh established a checkpoint at Pehroo Curve, Anantnag, where they intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number DL7CJ-8332. During the search, approximately 19 kilograms of poppy straw were recovered from the vehicle.”

“The two individuals in the vehicle, identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, son of Ab Rehman Mir, and Tariq Ahmad Mir, son of Gh Hassan, both residents of Mir Check Mattan, were arrested. The contraband and the vehicle used in the crime have been seized”, he said.

He said that a case has been registered under FIR No. 169/2024 at Police Station Anantnag, and further investigation is underway.

Anantnag Police urge community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their area. Those found engaging in drug peddling will face the full force of the law. Our continued actions against drug peddlers reaffirm our commitment to creating a drug-free society.
