Two days National Sports Day observed at GDC Marh

Jammu, Aug 30: Department of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with NSS unit under the patronage of Principal Government Degree College Marh, Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, organized intramural competition of three games namely Chess, Badminton and Carrom in commemoration of Major Dhyan Chand (Hockey Legend) w.e.f 28th to 29th Aug 2024.
In this competition, the students from Sem-Vth and Sem-IIIrd participated in Chess, Badminton and Carrom (Men & Women). The Principal Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul who was the chief guest, inaugurated the event. He encouraged the students to inculcate discipline, sportsmanship to take J&K to new heights. He also played the inaugural match of Badminton, Chess and Carrom with students for their encouragement.
A Fit India pledge was also taken by all participants and staff members. In Chess competition Silver medal won by Gourav Kumar (B.A Sem 3rd sem) and Gold medal clinched by Aayush Shan (5th sem). In carrom women section silver medal bagged by Reena Sharma and Simran Chover (5th sem) and Gold medal clinched by Sanjana Devi and Mishu Devi from (B.A 5th sem).
In Badminton (Women Double) Silver Medal won by Riya Sharma and Sneha Bhagat (sem 3rd Sem) and Gold Medal clinched Sanjana Devi and Mishu Devi from (5th sem). In Badminton (Men Double) Bronze Medal got by Gorav Kumar, Pranav Sharma, Ketan Kumar and Rohit Kumar from B.A 3rd Sem, Silver medal was won by Summy Kumar and Bobby Kumar Baitha Sem 5th and Gold Medal bagged by Abhishek Bhat and Aayush Shan from Sem B.Sc 5th .
The event was conducted by Ravi Kumar (Physical Training Instructor), Prof. Imtiaz Shahid (Convenor Sports), Asstt Prof. Sachin Bhagat (NSS PO), Asstt Prof. Dr. Shakun Sharma and Asstt Prof Dr. Sheetal Sharma. A match between the faculty and staff was also organized for the encouragement of students. A total of 70 students participated in the activity. The refreshment was also served to the students. Certificates of merit/ participation and medals certificates were also distributed among the participating students.
