JAMMU, Aug 07:  The security forces on Monday shot dead a divisional commander of proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch Sector.
“One terrorist was killed, while another was hit and seen falling down inside Indian side near the LoC ,” PRO Defence (Jammu), Lt Col Suneel Bartwal told Rising Kashmir, while adding, “The body of one terrorist has been recovered and the search operation for the body of another terrorist is still going on in the dense forests of Poonch”.
The terrorist whose body has been recovered by the security forces has been identified as Muneer Hussain, son of  Sattar Mohammad, resident of Bagyal Dara, Poonch. He was identified on the basis of police records. Muneer was a dreaded terrorist and the divisional commander of proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. He crossed over to PoK in 1990s and was mastermind of several attacks on security forces, the Defence PRO told Rising Kashmir. The joint operation was launched by the Army, Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the likelihood of an infiltration attempt duly corroborated by military and civil Intelligence agencies.  The Indian Army troops along with Special Operations Group of Jammu & Kashmir Police put in place multiple ambushes along the Line of Control in Poonch Sector to foil the infiltration bid.
“At approximately around 2am, during the intervening night of August 6-7, the alert troops deployed on the LoC in the Poonch Sector observed a suspicious movement of a group of two individuals trying to sneak across the Line of Control into the Indian side,” the Defence PRO said.
He added, “The alert troops kept the movement of the infiltrating group under continuous observation through new generation electro optical devices and when both the infiltrators moved towards the Indian side of the LoC, the forces challenged the infiltrators. On being challenged, the infiltrators opened fire after which the firefight ensued. One terrorist was shot dead and another was injured and seen falling down,”
The injured terrorist managed to sneak into the forest close to LoC, taking advantage of the thick forest cover. The area was immediately cordoned off to prevent the escape across the Line of Control, the PRO further said.
