Three more children die at Rajouri

• Toll of mysterious deaths rises to 12 • GoI deputes expert team of NCDC, ICMR to Jammu

Jammu, Jan 13: The mysterious deaths continue in Rajouri as three more children aged between 5 to 16 years died in the SMGS Hospital, Jammu’s, premier maternity and pediatric hospital taking the total toll of deaths to twelve.
Three children of Baddal village of Rajouri admitted in the SMGS Hospital are also not stable and are in critical condition and have been undergoing treatment, sources said.
Meanwhile, on the request of J&K health department, the Government of India (GoI) has deputed another team of experts to Jammu for ascertaining in detail the causes of these mysterious deaths in Rajouri.
“The expert team of ICMR and NCDC members will tomorrow first visit SMGS Hospital, Jammu, and later, it will go to Rajouri to ascertain the causes of mysterious deaths,” Principal, Government Medical College and Hospital-Jammu (GMC&H), Dr Ashutosh Gupta informed Rising Kashmir.
All the deceased and the affected in Rajouri are all relatives. The government had earlier constituted an expert team including experts of GMC-Jammu and GMC-Rajouri to find out the exact cause of mysterious deaths in Rajouri.
This expert team was called from National Institute of Virology Pune, PGI Chandigarh and NCDC from Delhi, which investigated all the aspects into the deaths in Rajouri but that report of experts is still awaited.
Sensing urgency of the situation, the GoI, on the request of J&K health department, has now deputed another team of experts from NCDC and ICMR, which will visit Jammu tomorrow, and will later go to Rajouri’s Badhal Village.
The deceased had symptoms like fever, sweating vomiting, altered sensorium along with dehydration.
The deceased have been identified as Zahoor Ahmed, S/O Mohd Aslam (14 years), R/O Badhal, Yasmeen Akhter (16 years), R/O Badhal, and Nabeena Akhter (05 years), R/O Badhal of Rajouri.
