Three-day workshop on bioinformatics concludes at SKUAST-K

Srinagar, Dec 31: A three-day workshop on ‘Advanced Microbial Diagnosis & Bioinformatics’ concluded at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Shuhama campus today.
The training was organised by the SKUAST-K’s Division of Veterinary Microbiology & Immunology, Faculty of Veterinary  Sciences, under the World Bank-ICAR funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP), to enhance the expertise and knowledge of students, researchers, scientists, and educators in navigating the evolving microbial landscape using cutting-edge bioinformatics tools.
About 40 participants from various institutes across the valley participated. Distinguished speaker Prof Ravi Kumar Gandham, Head of the Division of Animal Biotechnology at ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR), delivered an insightful talk and provided hands-on training on RNA transcriptomics and Whole Genome Sequencing of microbes. Dr Varun Sharma, Head of Bioinformatics at NMC, Genetics Healthcare, delved into Genome-wide Association Studies for disease resistance & production traits.
Dean of FVSc, Prof MT Banday, stressed the importance of conducting such training programs in the future. Prof Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi, Principal of Sri Pratap College Srinagar and the Guest of Honour commended the Veterinary Faculty’s efforts in nurturing research skills essential for conducting high-end research in this region.
Dr Mir Nadeem Hassan, Assistant Professor, and Organizing Secretary, provided an overview of the workshop, highlighting its objectives in the context of the rapid advancements in life sciences and technology. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by workshop coordinator, Dr Pervaiz Ahmad Dar.
