Sopore, Sep 13: In a plea for quality education, students of the Government Middle School (GMS) in Dangerpora, North Kashmir’s Sopore, have urged the local administration to provide them with a suitable school building.
The students expressed their frustration over the current state of their educational institution, citing a severe lack of space and resources.
With just three rooms accommodating more than 70 students, the school often merges classes due to limited space.
The students lamented that despite government claims of providing quality education, their learning environment fell far short of that promise.
“We cannot even study properly here. We also aspire to become doctors and engineers, but how is it possible to study in such circumstances?” they questioned.
Another student emphasized their dreams and ambitions, saying, “We too want to study to achieve something, but the lack of infrastructure severely hampers our education.”
The students have now called upon Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Syed Sehrish Asghar, to visit their school and address the situation.
The Government Middle School at Bunpora, Dangerpora, was established under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme in 2004.
It currently operates from a single-story, three-room building, which includes a staff room, despite being upgraded to the middle level in 2010.
Due to limited space, classes 7th and 8th have been moved to a nearby structure.
Teachers at the school expressed their inability to provide proper facilities and education to the enrolled students.
Local residents have brought this issue to the attention of the school education department, but so far, no action has been taken.
They questioned why the administration could allocate land for various purposes but not for a school building.
Mohammad Akbar, the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) for Dangerpora, acknowledged the infrastructure challenges faced by the school.
He assured that plans were underway to construct a double-story, six-room building to alleviate the students’ and staff’s difficulties.
ZEO further said that the infrastructure is the need of the hour. “Only with proper facilities can we provide quality education.”
He reiterated the commitment of the school education department to ensuring quality education for children.
The students and teachers eagerly await the construction of a new building, hopeful that it will pave the way for an improved educational experience in Dangerpora.
