The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated World Habitat Day at Channi Himmat, Jammu. A seminar on the theme “Engaging youth to create a better urban future “was organized on the occasion. Dr. Devansh Yadav, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, Jammu &
Chief Executive Officer, Jammu Smart City Limited was the Chief Guest and Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma, FIE; Chairman, IEI, Jammu Local Centre, and Sachin Tickoo, Honorary Secretary were present among a large number of engineers, professionals and members of the civil society.
In her Welcome address she emphasized the critical role young people can play in shaping sustainable,
inclusive, and resilient cities. As urbanization accelerates globally, cities are grappling with a large range of challenges, including overcrowding, environmental degradation, housing shortages and social inequality.
While speaking on the occasion Chief Guest said that all the stakeholders must work together in an effective and mutually beneficial manner to implement measure for a Carbon Free Jammu & Kashmir and create sustainable settlements. He further emphasized to create green zones within Jammu City during implementation of Smart City Mission in Jammu.
While speaking on the occasion, Sachin Tickoo, Honorary Secretary said this Day is celebrated to focus on the state of human settlements and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter. It also aims to remind people that they are responsible for the habitat of future generations. He urged that by prioritizing the sustainable, resilient, and inclusive cities, we can guarantee that everyone has a place to call home.
