Jammu, Nov 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri has welcomed the recommendation of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) committee to include epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata in textbooks and to write the Preamble of the Constitution on classroom walls.
“The whole world gives references from these holy Sanskrit epics on different occasions and their inclusion in textbooks will help raise a good society with ample moral values,”  Suri said in a statement.
“Earlier also, a high-level NCERT committee for social sciences had sought to replace the name ‘India’ with ‘Bharat’ in textbooks and introduce ‘classical History’ instead of ‘ancient History’ in the curriculum, which was also a great decision. We Indians were always connected to our roots but somehow, the wrong curriculum and nomenclature diverted us from our roots. Now that the NCERT is taking the initiative, the government must adhere to its recommendations and start teaching Ramayana and Mahabharata in schools,” he added.
The BJP leader said the epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata contain so many valuable lessons that after going through them, one can understand one’s connection with the motherland, learn ways to deliver or rule and adhere to ethics, and also learn to strengthen bonds with brothers, sisters and other relations besides respecting mother nature and standing for righteousness. Having learnt these moral values, one can never get cowed down by anyone, he said.
Raman said that writing the Preamble of the Constitution on the walls of the classrooms will be another milestone in strengthening democracy and secularism. “Every child must, at the beginning of his/her education, know what our Preamble is and how to respect our flag, the Tiranga. After that, everything begins to flow in,” he said.
He hoped that the recommendations of the NCERT committee will soon be accepted.
