Jammu, Jan 8: Jambunama, a Dogri book penned by T R Magotra was formally released Wednesday at K.L.Sehgal Hall, marking a significant addition to Dogri literature.
A statement said that the book provides an in-depth literary exploration of Duggar’s history, drawing references from ancient texts like the Vedas, Puranas, Ramayana, Mahabharata and accounts of travellers such as Chinese visitor Hiuen Tsang.
It delves into aspects of governance, social structure, administration, economy, and prominent personalities, while also discussing the origin of Duggar and Dogri language. Aimed at preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage, the book promises to be invaluable, especially for younger generations.

The release event was graced by eminent personalities of Duggar. Former Minister Ajay Sadhotra was the Chief Guest, while Padma Jatinder Udhampuri, Sahitya Akademi awardee and former director of Radio Kashmir Jammu, presided over the function. Other dignitaries included SSP Railways Jammu Shalinder Singh, also a Sahitya Akademi awardee, and Saroj Mahajan, noted social worker and Chairperson of KC Group of Educational Institutions. The dais was further adorned by Advocate Dogra Harish Kaila, President NDS, and Radha Rani, Assistant Professor of Dogri, Degree College Nagrota. TR Magotra shared his experience and highlighted the core themes of his book. Capt. Lalit Sharma, IFS (Retd.), and Convenor of NDS, lauded the publication as a proud addition to Dogri literature. Jatinder Udhampuri, in his poetic critique, likened writers like Sagar to lamps guiding others through storms. Guest of Honour Shalinder Singh underscored the need for research into various dimensions of Dogri culture and heritage, emphasizing the role of such books in inspiring younger generations. Saroj Mahajan highlighted the importance of preserving Dogri as the identity of valiant Dogras. The event was elegantly compered by Vina Dogra, a renowned stage artist, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Yash Pal Yash, General Secretary, NDS. Prominent attendees included Prof. Anupama Sharma ( Patron NDS ), Padmashri Mohan Singh, Narinder Singh Chib, Shambu Ram Pyasa, Dr. Chanchal Sharma, Abdul Quddir Kundria, Shahnawaz (Editor Gojri, JKAACL), Randhir Singh Raipuria, Rajeshwar Singh Manhas, District President National Conference and Raj Rishu Sharma, among others.
