Ganderbal, Mar 14: Division of Silviculture and Agroforestry, Faculty of Forestry, BenhamaWatlarGanderal, SKUAST-Kashmir kick started one-week long plantation drive at Watchen, Benhama. The planation drive was kick started by Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, Prof. N. A. Ganaie along with the Director Extension, Prof. Dil Mohd. Makdoomi, and Director Research & PPMO, Prof. Haroon Naik, Dean Faculty of Forestry, Prof. S. A. Gangoo and Dr. G. M. Bhat Professor & Head, Division of SAF and AB. Hameed, of Raheem Greens.
This programme was initiative for development of research-based revenue generation models on barren and degraded landscapes. As per the direction of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, the landscape was bought under cultivation practices and five different models of valuable plant species like Elm, Chestnut, Walnut, Pine, Deodar and intercropped with perineal grasses and seasonable vegetables.
Dr. G. M. Bhat, Professor and Head, Division of SAF, Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-Kashmir gave a detailed account of the developmental processes. Thousands of plants were planted today to start the event and the plantation drive will continue for one week. Head division of FBT, Prof. P. A. Khan, Prof. P. A. Sofi, Head division of FPU, Prof. S. N. Zaffer, Head division of SBS, Prof. Khursheed Ahmed, Head division of wildlife sciences and Dr. Akhlaq. A. Wani, Head, division of NRM took part in the drive and planted number of trees. The event was attended by all the heads of the departments, teaching and non-teaching staff along with number of students.
Vice chancellor congratulated the Head division of SAF and other scientists for developing these models and also directed to replicate them at other places. Vice chancellor also congratulated Ab. Hameed, Owner of the Raheem Greens for collaboration and its impact on future generations and overall sustainable development. In the end Prof. G. M. Bhat thanked all the guests, teaching and nonteaching staff for taking part in the drive.
