Jammu, Aug 03: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) on Thursday alleged that the UT administration was pushing the agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the cost of the public exchequer in Jammu & Kashmir.
NC provincial president Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta while addressing a meeting of party workers of Samba district in connection with the upcoming ULB polls at Sher-e- Kashmir Bhavan, here said there are apprehensions about the administration’s concerns, which they believe are serving the interests of the BJP rather than prioritizing the welfare of the public.
He raised questions about the usage of public funds and the potential implications it may have on the overall development and well-being of the region.
At the outset of the meeting, Sudagar Gupta, district president of JKNC, highlighted the hardships faced by the people of Samba, including the lack of basic amenities such as regular water and electricity supply.
Addressing the party workers, Gupta expressed dissatisfaction over “the administration’s apparent disregard for elected representatives while making decisions on public issues”. He cited the imposition of property tax in J&K as an example where elected representatives of municipal corporations, municipal councils and municipalities were “sidelined”. “The implementation of the illegally imposed property tax should be kept in abeyance until a democratically elected government is in place in Jammu & Kashmir,” he said.
The senior NC leader also raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of the Back to Villages programs, stating that it has failed to address the issues raised during its implementation. He termed it a futile attempt in wasting the hard-earned money of the public while carrying out such wasteful exercises which serve no purpose.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, the provincial secretary of JKNC Jammu, urged the party workers to gear up for the upcoming ULB polls and ensure the victory of the National Conference.
Satwant Kour Dogra, provincial president women’s wing Jammu asserted that the National Conference stands firm in its commitment to safeguard the interests of the people of Jammu & Kashmir and pledged to work tirelessly to address the grievances faced by the general public.
