Jammu, April 19: Farmers in the R.S. Pura sub-division are witnessing remarkable results this Rabi season, thanks to the adoption of the Super Seeder machine. Despite facing recent thunderstorms, surface winds, and heavy rainfall, damage to the wheat crop in the region has remained under five percent—an achievement largely attributed to this advanced piece of agricultural equipment.
Local farmers, including Prem Nath Sharma, Omkar Singh, Hans Raj and others have expressed their satisfaction with the machine. They highlight the benefits of improved crop spacing and plant robustness achieved through Super Seeder cultivation, which helped minimise the impact of the severe weather.
“This year, we used the Super Seeder to cultivate our wheat crop, and the difference is clearly visible,” said farmer Prem Nath Sharma. “The plants remained strong even during the recent storms.”
Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) R.S. Pura, Shri Surinder Gupta, confirmed that his team conducted field inspections across the area. He observed that fields sown using the Super Seeder experienced significantly less damage compared to those sown using traditional methods.
“A majority of wheat growers in the subdivision have adopted the Super Seeder this season,” Gupta said “The machine not only ensures better spacing between plants but also promotes healthier crop growth, making the plants more resilient to harsh weather.” Director of Agriculture Jammu, Shri Arvinder Singh Reen, emphasised the importance of adopting modern machinery in sustainable farming practices. “The Super Seeder is a unique innovation that simultaneously carries out ploughing, mulching of paddy residue, and sowing for the next crop—all in a single operation,” he said. He further added that the Agriculture Department is actively promoting the use of such technologies, which contribute to soil moisture conservation, reduce seed and fertiliser wastage, and are cost-effective. Farmers are being encouraged through initiatives such as a 50 percent subsidy on Super Seeder purchases and availability through Farm Machinery Banks under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP). The successful implementation of the Super Seeder in R.S. Pura stands as a shining example of how mechanisation is transforming agriculture, helping farmers increase productivity while building resilience against climate uncertainties.
