Srinagar, May 23: Minister for Education, Sakeena Itoo on Friday said that the decision regarding the announcement of the summer vacation break will be made at the appropriate time.
She made these remarks during her tour of Kokernag constituency. During her visit, she reviewed the functioning and infrastructure status of various healthcare facilities and educational institutions in the area.
She also inspected Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kokernag, PHC Larnoo, PHC Gadole, PHC Wandevelgam, and Government Degree College (GDC) Larnoo to take first-hand appraisal of the functioning of these healthcare facilities and educational institutions.
Speaking to the reporters, Sakeena Itoo said that due to the rising temperatures, the school timings have been adjusted. She noted that they have received numerous calls from students and their families requesting a change in school timings.
The students were experiencing significant difficulties during morning assembly due to the heatwave conditions, which prompted the decision to alter the school timings for all government and private schools.
“If the heatwave conditions persist, we will make a proper decision regarding the announcement of the summer vacation break for schools at the appropriate time,” she remarked.
When questioned about the infrastructure of the schools, Itoo indicated that they have already received many requests for the construction of school and hospital buildings. For schools currently operating in rented facilities or temporary structures, plans are in place to construct permanent school buildings. Additionally, if any school requires extra rooms, those will also be constructed.
“We have already secured substantial funding under the Samagra Shiksha J&K program, which will be utilized for the construction of these school buildings,” she said
The Ministry of Education said that it is now mandatory for us to utilize the funds received under the Samgra Shiksha scheme for the construction of school buildings in locations where schools are currently operating in rented facilities or tin sheds.
“In the brief period of the last seven months, the government has accomplished a significant amount of work. We can evaluate the government’s performance. Since Omar Abdullah assumed the role of Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, we have achieved numerous milestones during this timeframe. I cannot claim that we have completed 100 percent of the work, as there are still many issues that require attention in Jammu and Kashmir,” she added.
