Baramulla, July 18: A shopkeeper in Palhallan, Baramulla, was apprehended by the Baramulla Police for his involvement in the illicit sale of petroleum products at inflated prices.
The police successfully recovered 400 liters of petrol and diesel from the shop during the operation.
A police official said that under the supervision of Sh. Mohd Nawaz, SDPO Pattan, and with the assistance of PSI Aeraf Niyaz, in charge of Police Post Palhallan, the police arrested the shopkeeper identified as Mohd Yaqoob Sheikh, son of Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, a resident of Tantraypora, Palhallan.
The accused had been found selling petroleum products illegally and charging exorbitant rates at his shop in Palhallan, Pattan.
“During the search of his shop, a significant quantity of 400 liters of petrol and diesel was discovered, promptly seized, and taken into custody by the authorities,” the official said.
The Baramulla police said that a case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Essential Commodities and Petroleum Act at the Pattan Police Station, and an investigation has been initiated to gather more information about the illegal operation.
The actions taken by the Baramulla Police have garnered appreciation from the local community members in the area who hail their efforts in curbing such illicit activities.
