Srinagar, June 18: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president, Tariq Hameed Karra on Wednesday said block presidents are the backbone of the party and are mandated to play a crucial role in rejuvenating the party at the grassroots level.
“They must work hard to be capable of overcoming the challenges, be it the upcoming elections, organisational challenges or political challenges,” Karra, who has been chairing Block President meetings since Tuesday, said while presiding over the final phase of the meeting at the party office here on Wednesday.
Block presidents from south, central, and north Kashmir had detailed discussions with the party chief and briefed him about the ongoing organisational affairs and activities at the grassroots level in their respective blocks, the party said in a statement issued here.
The meetings thoroughly discussed the upcoming challenges, especially ULB, DDC, and BDC elections, while resolving to further strengthen party ranks at all levels. Block presidents present in the meeting also briefed the JKPCC president about the current developmental and political situation in their respective blocks, assuring him that they would put in strenuous efforts to invigorate the party.
Speaking on the occasion, Karra said that block presidents are required to play a pivotal role on the ground and stay connected with the common people to identify their needs for timely resolution. He called for enlightening the public about Congress Party’s “pro-people” policies and programmes and seeking their full support to further strengthen the party for the inclusive development of J&K.
JKPCC president informed the block presidents about the importance of “Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq” mission, and said that Congress in the upcoming district-level political conventions will strongly reiterate its demand for the restoration of statehood to J&K.
“Congress represents the urges and aspirations of the people, so we are fully committed to fighting to safeguard public rights,” Karra said.
The JKPCC president accused the central government of deliberately delaying the restoration of statehood to J&K, saying, “This is the root cause of disillusionment and disconnect among the people at both political and administrative levels.”
He criticised the dual control of J&K, saying it is brutally impacting the region in every respect. “There is apparently a wide gap between the government and bureaucracy, resulting in things not being normal, which must come to an end for the larger interest and prosperity of J&K,” he said.
Karra also held a meeting with senior leaders, legislators, district presidents of the Kashmir region, including frontal organisation heads, state and district heads, and office bearers, urging them to make the upcoming district-level conventions in Kashmir successful, starting from June 21 in Srinagar District.
CLP leader and AICC general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir was present at the meeting and highlighted the significance of district-level political conventions. He urged that political activities in all districts must gain momentum with the involvement of all seniors and juniors, including frontal organisations, as this will boost the morale of party cadres involved in grassroots activities.
