Srinagar, Oct 22: Students from Sopore Law College embarked on a media tour to the Rising Kashmir office here on Tuesday to get firsthand exposure to the workings of the media industry.
The delegation of students was led by Lecturer Malik Aamir and was warmly received by the editorial team at Rising Kashmir.
During the visit, Irfan Yattoo, Chief Reporter of Rising Kashmir, delivered a special lecture on media reporting. In his address, Yattoo highlighted the importance of accuracy, ethics and credibility in journalism, emphasising how these elements play a crucial role in maintaining public trust.
He touched upon the challenges of reporting in Kashmir, encouraging students to be resilient and adaptive when faced with evolving situations.
Yattoo provided insights into field reporting, story development and the significance of fact-checking before publishing any news. “Good journalism is about truth-telling, accountability, and serving the public interest,” he said.
Shafaat Malik, Administrative Reporter briefed the students on the newspaper’s layout design process. He explained how different sections of the newspaper are organised to ensure clarity and readability for the audience. The reporter highlighted the importance of visual hierarchy, font choices and photo placement in creating an engaging and informative newspaper.
Malik further elaborated on the technical aspects of printing, highlighting the challenges and considerations involved in producing a daily newspaper, from selecting paper types to managing deadlines.
“A well-designed layout is the backbone of any successful newspaper. It makes the information more accessible and engaging for readers,” He said.
Arif Rashid, Education Reporter, discussed the vital role of educational journalism in raising awareness about academic issues, government policies and student affairs. He encouraged the students to explore education reporting as a niche that contributes significantly to societal development.
Later in the tour, the students were taken to the Printing Press, where they witnessed a live demonstration of the newspaper printing process. They observed how the layout designed on computers is transferred to print, with the large-scale machines rolling out the daily editions.
Lecturer Aamir Malik expressed his gratitude to Hafiz Ayaz, Editor-in-Chief of Rising Kashmir and Executive Editor, Ms Anuja Khushoo for providing the students with this valuable opportunity for media exposure.
“The visit provided a practical learning experience, giving the students an opportunity to see how a newspaper comes to life, from content creation to distribution,” Malik said.
The visit concluded with students thanking the Rising Kashmir team for their hospitality and the invaluable insights shared during the tour.
