Srinagar, July 12: The Dry-land Agriculture Research Station (DARS) of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) organized a three-day training programme on “Organic Standards of India for Certification and Marketing” from July 10 to 12, 2024. The event was part of the Holistic Agriculture Development Project.
Dr.Mehfuza Habib, Professor of Genetics & Plant Breeding, inaugurated the programme by welcoming the participants and providing an overview of the training. The Associate Director Research, Dr. Zahoor A. Dar, highlighted the significance of research, methodology, and training in agriculture during the opening session.
In his address, Dr. Sher A. Dar, Professor of Genetics & Plant Breeding, encouraged participants to use the training for their economic benefit and to establish Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Dr. Mushtaq A. Dar, also a professor, engaged the participants with thought-provoking questions related to the training topics.
Dr. Seerat un Nissa, Associate Professor of Soil Science and Training Coordinator, provided a detailed overview of the training, introducing the eminent speakers and detailing the background of the trainees. The programme included lectures and presentations from various experts, including Dr.Mehfuza Habib, Dr. A. A. Lone, Dr. Shabina Majeed, Dr.Efath Shahnaz, Dr. Sabeena Naseer, and Dr. Zahida Rashid.
A highlight of the event was the release of a soil card emphasizing the importance of organic farming. The training concluded with the distribution of certificates and Rhizobium-based bio-formulations to the participants.
