Srinagar, Aug 14: SKUAST-Kashmir, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Shuhama is organizing Anti-Ragging week from August 12th to 16th, 2024. The event is marked by various activities aimed at raising awareness about the menace of ragging and promoting a safe and inclusive academic environment for all students.
One of the key highlights of the week was a rally against ragging, on August 13th. The rally commenced from Students’ Facility Centre, FVSc & AH and concluded at the main Admin. Block. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff, all marching together to demonstrate their commitment to eradicate ragging from the campus.
At the culmination of the rally, Prof. Shayaib A Kamil, Dean of FVSc & AH, addressed the participants. In his address, he emphasized the importance of creating a supportive and respectful atmosphere for every student. He highlighted the institution’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and underscored the need for collective efforts to ensure a safe academic environment.
Chairman Anti-Ragging Committee Prof. Z A Pampori also pointed out that ragging was a criminal offense that could have severe legal consequences.
He encouraged students to foster positive relationships with their peers and to reach out to faculty members or the Anti-Ragging Committee if they witness or experience any form of harassment. Member Secretary, Anti Ragging Committee, FVSc & AH, Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Bhat proposed vote of thanks by acknowledging presence of everyone who participated in the event. In addition to the rally, various other events, including Essay Writing Competition, Quiz competition, and interactive sessions, were held.
These events aimed to educate students about the legal, social, and psychological implications of ragging, as well as to provide them with tools to stand against it. The Valedictory Function of the week-long celebration is scheduled for 16th of August, 2024, that shall feature prize distribution, screening of UGC movie on ragging and anti-ragging awareness lectures. The initiative was lauded by participants and is expected to have a lasting impact on the campus culture at FVSc & AH Shuhama.
