Budgam, Aug 14: KVK Budgam in collaboration with National Seed Project, organised an Input Distribution Programme under Tribal Sub-Plan in villages of District Budgam bordering District Baramulla. About 120 Tribal farmers and farm women of Shiplin and Nowgam village – situated at an altitude of 2168 a.m.s.l approximately received inputs like Seed Bins (60) and Farm Tool Kits (60) to facilitate agriculture in these far-flung areas.
The aim of these Farm Tool Kits is to help farmers to carry out operations in their fields and increase farmers’ productivity. The purpose of Seed Bins is to maintain optimal physical and physiological condition of the seed from harvest to sowing in the next season.
Dr. Gowhar Ali, Assoc. Prof (NSP) SKUAST-K briefed the farmers about role of Tribal Sub-Plan to address issues of backwardness in Tribal areas in an integrated manner and to minimize gap between livelihood of Tribal people and general community. Dr. Nasir A. Dar, Associate Director, Research SKUAST-K, briefed the farmers and farm women about role of SKUAST-K in augmenting research in agriculture in order to facilitate farming community in the Valley.
Dr. Bilal A. Lone, Professor and Head, KVK Budgam, briefed the Tribal farmers about the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendra – Budgam in facilitating agriculture and allied activities in the district through On-Farm Trials, Front-Line Demonstrations, Trainings and Awareness Programmes. He encouraged the farmers to avail the services of the Kendra for more profitable farming.
Scientists from KVK Budgam and other technical staff also attended the program.
