Srinagar, Nov 19: College of Temperate Sericulture, SKUAST-K, Mirgund, witnessed the inauguration of a one-week Skill Development Programme titled “Women Empowerment Through Value Addition in Sericulture for Entrepreneurship Skills and Livelihood Security.”
This transformative initiative enrolled 25 enthusiastic trainees, aiming to foster entrepreneurial skills and secure sustainable livelihoods through advancements in sericulture.
The event commenced with Dr. Masarat Bashir, the Programme Coordinator, delivering a comprehensive overview of the training programme. She eloquently highlighted the importance of the initiative, particularly in light of recent innovations in sericulture. Dr. Nisar Ahmad Ganie, Head of the Division of Cocoon Crop Production, warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized the significance of their active engagement throughout the sessions.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Prof. K.A. Sahaf, Associate Dean of the college, in presence of Heads of Divisions, scientists, and trainees. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Sahaf encouraged participants to immerse themselves fully in the training sessions, urging them to seize this opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge. He underscored the pivotal role of sericulture in empowering communities and its potential to transform lives, particularly in Kashmir.
The programme attracted unemployed yet educated youth, who were introduced to the objectives of the initiative and the broader status of the sericulture industry in Kashmir.
