Anantnag, May 04: The future of students at Anantnag’s Government Primary School Gund Shumhal hangs in the balance as the school has only two teachers for over a hundred students.
A local resident Farooq Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that the school has become a source of frustration and anger for both villagers and students as only two teachers have been teaching to hundred students since years.
“It is a call to action for the government to prioritize education and invest in the development of schools in remote areas,” he said
A parent of two students, Shabir Ahmad said that despite their numerous appeals to the concerned authorities to depute more teachers to the institute, their cries have fallen on deaf ears, leaving them feeling helpless and frustrated.
“We have been begging for more teachers for months now, but no one seems to care,” he said
Shabir said that their children are the future of their village, but if they’re not getting the education they need, they’ll become inhumane and they can’t let that happen.”
The villagers urged higher-ups to intervene in the matter before the institute would be locked up by residents, if more teachers were not deputed.
Students of the institute also requested higher authorities to take swift action and ensure that they get the education they deserve.
While talking to Rising Kashmir, Chief Education Officer Anantnag (CEO) , Kamal Kishore Badyal acknowledged the problem and said that they have devised a committee to resolve the issue.
He said that the issue will be resolved within weeks as it came to his notice for the first time.
However Deputy Commissioner Anantnag S.F Hamid has directed the education department to provide a report on the issue, and promised to depute more teachers based on the student-teacher ratio.
He assured students and residents of the area that the issue will be resolved within weeks.
