Six houses were gutted in a separate fire incident in Srinagar’s Mansoor colony Bemina and Habak Channapora areas on the intervening night of Wednesday-Thursday. Minor and Firemen also suffered burn injuries in the blaze.
According to witnesses, the fire broke out around midnight and quickly spread to nearby homes. They stated that shortly after the incident, residents in the area swung into action to extinguish the flames and were joined by fire and emergency personnel.
They said that until the fire was brought under control, three houses were gutted completely and two others were partially damaged. According to locals, property worth lakhs of rupees was gutted in the fire incident.
The affected house owners were identified as Habibullah Shamsher, Shakeel Ahmad, Shabir Ahmad, and Manzoor Ahmad, all residents of Mansoor Colony in Habbak Srinagar.
In the fire incident, a 10-year-old boy named Mohammad Asif Ahangar and fireman Mehraj-ud-Din Peerzada were also injured in the blaze; the two were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. As per the fire and emergency department, they have suffered burn injuries, and their condition is said to be stable.
In a separate fire incident, a double-storey wooden house was also gutted in Habak Channapora, and property worth lakhs was also gutted into the ashes there. the affected house owner was identified as Mehraj-Uddin Mallah, son of Abdul Ahad Malla.
The affected family and their relatives have urged the authorities to help them in this difficult time and have also urged them to rehabilitate them.
According to the locals, one of the affected persons has six daughters, two of whom were recently engaged. They have lost everything in this nocturnal blaze and have been rendered homeless.
They have urged the common people as well as authorities to help them keep in mind the peak winters ahead.
An official from the fire and emergency services confirmed the fire incidents to Rising Kashmir, saying three houses were destroyed in Habbak and two others suffered minor damage.
In a separate fire, he said, a wooden house in Srinagar’s Chanapora neighbourhood was gutted. According to the officer, a firefighter was also injured in the Bemina fire.
According to the officer, the cause of the fire is a short circuit in both locations.
