Six drug peddlers held in Kashmir, 320 Kgs poppy straw and other contraband substances seized

Continuing its drive “War against drugs” to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested six drug peddlers in Anantnag & Baramulla districts. Huge quantity of contraband substances including 320 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from their possession.

In Anantnag, acting on specific input regarding drug peddling in the jurisdiction of Police Station Dooru, a police party of PS Dooru intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration number JK18A-5471 with two persons on board at a special checkpoint established at Mandipora crossing. During checking, 320Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance was recovered from the said vehicle. The two accused persons have been identified as Balvinder Kumar son of Santok Ram resident of Pakadeem Jalender Punjab and Boshan Das son of Sangra Ram resident of Ward No 2 Mohalla Chodyan Jalender Punjab. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Moreover, another police party at a checking established at Mehmood Abad, Dooru crossing intercepted two persons riding a motorcycle bearing registration number JK03K-4240. During search, 4 grams of Heroin like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Malik Anzar son of Gh Nabi Malik resident of Nathipora Dooru and Nakeeb Yousuf Thakroo son of Mohd Yousuf resident of Gori Bijbehara. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

In Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Tangmarg under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Shri Imtiyaz Ahmad-JKPS during naka checking at a checkpoint established at Drang Crossing Tangmarg intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully. During search, 70 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Khan son of Ab Rashid Khan resident of Harashnag & Lateef Ahmad Khan son of Gh Ahmad Khan resident of Khamindarpora. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
