Baramulla, Nov 16: The Department of Sheep Husbandry, Baramulla, organized a ‘District-Level Kissan Mela-Cum-Livestock Show’ at the Multi-Facilitation Centre, Chijhama Rafiabad.
The event organised under the ‘State Extension Program for Extension Reforms (ATMA)’ as part of the centrally-sponsored ‘Sub-Mission on Agriculture Extension (SAME),’ it aimed to enhance knowledge and practices among sheep and goat breeders.
The program saw the participation of around 65 progressive breeders, including women and members of the ST community, from Sheep Extension Centres across Rohama and Rafiabad blocks.
Experts from the Sheep Husbandry Department delivered detailed presentations on managing surgical conditions in small ruminants, disease diagnosis, winter livestock management, and income-generating schemes.
In addition, officers from allied departments, including Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, and Horticulture, shared information on income-generation schemes available under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP). Stalls showcasing departmental schemes, achievements, and activities were a key attraction, promoting the adoption of modern livestock practices and equipment.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to officials from Sheep Development Blocks Rohama and Rafiabad for their outstanding service.
A livestock show, featuring elite rams, ewes, and goats, was the event’s highlight, judged by experts. Owners of the top-performing animals were awarded first, second, and third prizes, along with certificates of appreciation.
The event successfully provided a platform for breeders to learn, innovate, and adopt practices aimed at boosting productivity and income, contributing to the sustainable development of the livestock sector in Baramulla.
