Srinagar, July 18: Scores of National Conference (NC) workers joined the People’s Democratic Party on Thursday at the party headquarters here, the PDP said.
The event took place in the presence of PDP General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura and was organised by the District President of Budgam, Mohammad Yaseen Bhat, the party said in a statement issued here.
During his address, Hanjura called for the need to rejuvenate the party at the grassroots level and to reach out to people to address their issues. He expressed concern over the current state of governance in Jammu & Kashmir. “The absence of an elected government has left people at the mercy of bureaucrats and led to widespread anguish and disappointment across both the Jammu & Kashmir provinces,” he said.
Hanjuri said, “It is very unfortunate that obstacles are being created with regard to holding elections in J&K.” He urged the Central government to pave the way for the restoration of a democratic setup in the region, which he believes is crucial for ensuring proper representation of the people.
The PDP leader further said that Jammu & Kashmir has suffered huge setbacks in terms of development. The extreme unemployment has led to a drug menace among the youth. This is due to the wrong policies adopted by the BJP government,” he said.
Hanjura said PDP is committed to the cause of serving and strengthening the people. “There will be no compromise on the urges and aspirations of the J&K people who have been made to suffer enormously on every account,” he added.
The event was attended by PDP state secretaries Arif Laigaroo and Hameed Kohsheen, as well as district presidents Yaseen Bhat, Qayoom Bhat, and Dr Ali Mohammad Bashir Beigh.
