Jammu, June 10: Post Graduate Department of Oral &Maxillo-facial Surgery, Indira Gandhi Govt. Dental College, Jammu began the first-ever two-day conference on Oral &Maxillo-facial surgery with special reference to surgical interventions in oral cancers, on Saturday. It will continue on Sunday in the auditorium of IGGDC.
The Secretary to Government Health and Medical Education Department Bhupinder Kumar inaugurated the conference and in his presidential address, he emphasized upon the increasing pace with which NCDs including cancers which are becoming prevalent and posing a threat to global health and healthcare delivery systems.
He highlighted the relevance and importance of highly-skilled Oral &Maxillo facial surgeons for providing high end cancer management services to oral, head and neck cancer patients. This hands-on training workshop and conference on the latest surgical skills and interventions shall go a long way in upgrading the service profile of IGGDC Jammu and making it a center of excellence in the Oral &Maxillo facial surgery, he said.
Kumar stressed upon the multidisciplinary approach of this surgical specialty of dentistry which he said requires to be rationally integrated with other cancer management modalities in the State Cancer Institute and Government Medical College Jammu. The Secretary H&ME also inaugurated a cafeteria in the campus which is one of the institutional requirements of Dental Council of India. He also inaugurated a high-tech committee room in the institution.
Principal and Dean IGGDC Dr. Rakesh Krishan Gupta gave a detailed overview of the college, infrastructure, equipment especially IT infrastructure of the institution along with improvements made in academic, clinical and research activities.
Prof. and Head Oral & Maxillo-Facial Surgery Dr. Parveen Akhter Lone gave a detailed presentation on the surgical interventions in various cases of Oral Maxillo facial surgeries regarding road traffic accidents, trauma, tumors and Temporo-Mandibular joint surgeries through power point presentations.
Dr. Anshuman Kumar, who is a highly acclaimed Onco-Surgeon in India and has an expertise in clinical and surgical techniques for management of complex cancers especially oral, neck and head cancers, provided hands-on training to delegates on Novel Punch Biopsy Technique in oral cancer.
Dr. Mohan Singh, Director Ayush J&K, also participated in the program as a special guest. Dr. Amrit Pal Singh and Dr. Sanjay Kumar Bhagat faculty of OMF surgery coordinated Scientific and Technical sessions. Dr. Roopav Nargotra, faculty of OMF surgery presented the vote of thanks.
