Ganderbal, Jan 2: In a proactive measure to ensure readiness for winter-related challenges, the SDRF team, under the supervision of CEO SDA, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat Thursday conducted a vital preparedness exercise in Sonamarg.
The initiative engaged key stakeholders and line departments, including representatives from the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), Tourism, Forest, Wildlife, Health, PHE departments, as well as local stakeholders such as hoteliers and snowmobile operators.
The exercise focused on equipping participants with essential knowledge and skills in first aid, firefighting, and rescue techniques. Special attention was given to fostering inter-departmental coordination for a seamless response to potential emergencies during the harsh winter months.
The SDRF sub-component Gund played a pivotal role in the training, emphasizing the importance of timely interventions and effective collaboration among all concerned departments. Stakeholders were briefed on operational protocols to handle snowstorms, avalanches, and other winter-related challenges that Sonamarg frequently faces.
Local hoteliers and snowmobile bikers, who are often the first responders in emergency situations, actively participated in the sessions. They expressed appreciation for the initiative, highlighting its importance for ensuring the safety of residents and tourists alike.
CEO SDA, Gh. Mohammad Bhat, lauded the efforts of the SDRF team and the participating departments, stating, “This exercise exemplifies our commitment to making Sonamarg a safe winter destination. By bringing all stakeholders together, we are ensuring a cohesive and well-prepared response to any eventuality.” The exercise is part of a series of initiatives under the SDA’s winter preparedness plan, aimed at mitigating risks and ensuring uninterrupted services in the famous tourist resort.
