JAMMU, May 12: A multi-crore scam has surfaced in the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) regarding revenue collection through advertising hoardings as no official record/account of this revenue collected in the past some years has been found by the authorities, JMC official informed.
Soon after the surfacing of swindling of crores of rupees, the civic body- JMC swung into action and removed 6000 advertising hoarding installed in different areas across Jammu during the past couple of days.
When contacted. JMC Mayor, Rajinder Sharma admitted that there is no record/account of the revenue collected be way of the advertising hoardings.
“There is no official record and account of the revenue collected by way of advertising hoardings in the last five years by the JMC,” the JMC Mayor informed Rising Kashmir, adding, “We don’t know where this huge revenue collected in the last some years has gone”.
The JMC charges Rs 5 per Sq feet for an advertising hoarding per day. Pertinently, the 6000 advertising hoardings removed by the JMC are of 2X3 sq feet dimension. This means, the JMC has to realise a revenue of Rs 30 per day from one hoarding.
This way, the JMC suffered losses to the tune of crores of Rs per year. The authorities found that there is no official account as to where this whopping revenue collected by the JMC has gone, he added.
The Mayor said, “the accountability will soon be fixed and those who caused losses to the JMC in crores will be exposed soon”.
The JMC has since long been struggling to meet its expenses as its revenue generation is not enough to give even salaries to its employees. The government provides financial support to the civic body to meet its expenses every year.
