Ganderbal, Aug 17: In a remarkable display of civic responsibility, a large-scale sanitation drive was carried out in Sonamarg under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA). The initiative was organized in close collaboration with volunteers from the environmental group Go Green Sonamarg and executed with the support of  Reyaz Ahmad, reflecting the community’s strong resolve to preserve the pristine beauty of the tourist destination.Speaking on the occasion, officials said, “Sonamarg is a natural treasure that attracts thousands of visitors every year. It is our shared responsibility to ensure that this destination remains clean and sustainable for generations to come. Today’s drive is not just about cleaning, but about creating awareness and inspiring collective action.”Volunteers from Go Green Sonamarg expressed satisfaction over the joint effort, stating, “This collaboration with SDA has shown what can be achieved when government authorities and local groups work together. We hope such initiatives continue on a regular basis so that Sonamarg remains pollution-free.”Community coordinator Reyaz Ahmad, who played a key role in mobilizing efforts, noted, “The participation of young volunteers today is truly encouraging. Their commitment is a message to all visitors and locals that maintaining cleanliness is everyone’s duty.” The drive covered several key stretches of Sonamarg, including tourist hotspots and routes, where volunteers collected plastic waste, polythene, and other litter. Officials confirmed that such drives will be held more frequently, with a special focus on sensitizing tourists and locals alike.
