Srinagar, Apr 19: A health awareness programme was held at Government High School (GHS) Kandikaller, Garkote in the Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The theme of the program was ‘healthy lifestyle’ which was organised by two Kashmir-based NGOs – Saaya and Uri Foundation.
In a statement issued here, the organisers said that the aim was to educate the children of this remote area about health and hygiene.
The program started with the speech of Dr Asif (Dental Surgeon) who spoke about oral health and shared tips and techniques on mouth hygiene with the students.
Nisar Ahmad, health educator at SDH Uri spoke on hand hygiene and conducted a demo of proper hand washing with students.
Mohammad Hanief, a local social activist while highlighting the alarming rise in drug addiction in society said that this needs to be addressed at the grassroots level.
Amreen, a class 10th student of the school delivered a speech on the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Later, a vote of thanks was delivered by Manzoor Mir, vice-headmaster GHS Kandikaller. He appreciated the noble effort of the Uri Foundation for conducting such a program and thanked its functionaries. He expressed his desire that the foundation shall continue to organise more such programs in the future, the statement adds.
Notably, students were involved in various activities for better learning. The programme was attended by almost 120 students and 10 teachers, organisers said. The session was moderated by Irfan Majid, a faculty of GHS Kandikaller. Abrar Bhat and Bashir Ahmad Bhat from Saaya and Uri Foundation were present on the occasion.
