Srinagar, Apr 16: Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the Chief Minister, on Wednesday rejected rumours suggesting that an MLA from the National Conference (NC) was preparing to leave the party.
Speaking to KNS, Wani said, “There is no truth to the talk of any MLA quitting. Such rumours are completely baseless and aimed at creating confusion among the people.”
He urged media organisations to act responsibly and verify news before publication. “The journalists who broke this news must have verified the facts. Reporting without confirmation only misleads the public,” he added.
The Advisor highlighted the ongoing case in the Supreme Court concerning the Waqf Bill, saying the party has full faith in the judicial system. “The Supreme Court is going to present the case today. We have sent our entire team, including MLA Muzaffar Iqbal, other MLAs and a strong legal team. We will fight our case there, and we hope that the biggest court in the country will give us justice,” Wani said.
Calling the Waqf Bill “against our rights”, he said the party would continue to oppose the bill and seek amendments to protect the community’s interests.
Regarding the political situation, the CM’s Advisor dismissed talks of any MLA switch and clarified that two seats in Nagrota had fallen vacant, and by-elections were expected. “There are always by-elections. Two seats have been vacated in Nagrota, and they should definitely have a by-election here,” he said.
