Srinagar, Sept 16: Pending civil works of various government schools would be taken up after more than Rs 84 core were sanctioned under central sponsored scheme Samagra Shiksha for Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department (SED), officials said on Friday.
The officials added that the pending civil works that were at different stages of construction of pre-primary, high and higher secondary schools worth crores of rupees are to be taken up at a rapid pace after the sanction.
According to Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, Deep Raj said, under the centrally sponsored scheme, Samagra Shiksha Rs 84.4 crores were sanctioned to J&K SED.
“Sanction is accorded to the release of funds to the tune of Rs 8440 lakhs in favour of the Executive Engineer, Construction Division of School Education Department, on account of works approved during Project Approval Board (PAB) meeting 2020-21,” Raj informed.

“The approved works shall be completed within the time period and the executing agency shall ensure that the construction meets the safety norms laid down by the National Building Code of India,” Raj said in an order.
In November, 2021 the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has informed the Ministry of Education (MoE) that it has completed most of the civil works and while some other pending works were at different stages of construction.
“The pending civil works have been put to execution through the engineering divisions of the School Education Department and most of the works have been either completed during the current year or are at different stages of construction which shall be completed by end of the current financial year,” reads the reply of authorities of Jammu and Kashmir.

In the meeting, the School Education Department also said that the details of works approved under erstwhile Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) which could not be taken up for execution till 2019-20 were being authenticated from the field agencies.
