Jammu, June 21: National Conference Provincial President Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta on Friday held a meeting with district presidents of Jammu Urban, Rural “A” and Rural “B” here on the forthcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which have been pending for the last ten years.
The meeting, according to a party statement, was attended by senior colleagues, including Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary Jammu, Vijay Lochan, Chairman SC Cell, Chander Mohan Sharma, District President Jammu Urban, Raghbir Singh Manhas, District President Jammu Rural A, Naresh Bittu, District President Jammu Rural B, Rakesh Singh Raka, Vice President Central Zone, S. Tejinder Singh, District President Jammu Urban YNC, and S. Gurnam Singh, Block President Jammu West.
Gupta said the assembly elections are crucial for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to choose their representatives and address their genuine issues. Holding assembly elections without restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir would not be in the best interest of the people, he said.
The NC leader’s statement comes as a response to the Prime Minister’s recent statement on holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The Provincial President urged the Election Commission of India to issue special summary revisions for the state to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.
The meeting also discussed ways to strengthen the democratic values in the region by restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Rattan Lal reiterated that the state has a rich history and deserves to be restored as a full-fledged state in the larger interest of its people.
“The leaders present at the meeting expressed their commitment to work together to ensure a successful election process in Jammu and Kashmir. They also discussed strategies to mobilize support among the people for the restoration of statehood and the conduct of free and fair elections,” the statement added.
