Srinagar, Apr 12: Chairman of the Democratic Party of Azad Kashmir (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday rallied support for the party’s Lok Sabha candidate, G M Saroori in Thatri, Kishtwar. He urged the people to stand behind Saroori and the values he represents.
Addressing the public gathering, Azad said there was an urgent need for change and urged voters to support a candidate who advocates for fairness and equality, regardless of caste or religion. He underscored the importance of electing leaders committed to serving all constituents and fostering inclusivity and mutual respect.
“We must vote for a candidate who ensures justice for people of all faiths. Our track record speaks for itself – we have never discriminated against anyone,” Azad declared, highlighting his party’s unwavering commitment to uplift the marginalised. “While others have exploited religion for political gain, our mission is to uplift the poor and become their voice.”
Appealing to the electorate to prioritise development, the DPAP chief stressed the significance of choosing candidates dedicated to the progress and welfare of the people. “The Chenab Valley has long been neglected by other parties. As a son of this soil, I keenly feel the pain of my people,” he remarked, promising continued efforts to improve infrastructure and access to education and healthcare.
Reminiscing about his impassioned speeches in parliament regarding Article 370 and statehood, the former chief minister asserted, “It was only me who fought for your rights when others remained silent.” He affirmed his commitment to striving for full statehood and pledged to introduce legislation to safeguard job and land rights if supported by the people.
Azad also vowed to reinstate the Roshni scheme, which provided crucial support to the underprivileged before being revoked by the government. “My government will bring back the Roshni scheme to ensure justice and support for those in need,” he declared.
The former CM cautioned against falling under the influence of those with a history of exploiting the people. He urged voters to assess candidates based on their track record and dedication to community service, saying there was a need to support those genuinely committed to the welfare of the people.
