Srinagar, May 04: National Conference (NC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of attempting to instill fear among Hindus to maintain his power.
Abdullah said PM was diverting attention from the issues concerning common people that originally propelled him to power in 2014.
Speaking in support of the party’s Lok Sabha candidate Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi in Khanyar Srinagar, Farooq condemned Modi’s alleged tactics of spreading fear among Hindus.
He said Modi’s statements that Hindus’ mangalsutras could be taken away and sold to Muslims are divisive. “People must reject such tactics,” he said.
Referring to the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the former chief minister expressed discontent with the appointment of “outsiders” to key positions in the Union Territory. He said there is a need to resist decisions made by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre, particularly the revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
The NC Chief called on voters to remain vigilant during elections, urging them to verify the functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to ensure the integrity of their votes.
Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by NC, Dr Farooq Abdullah said, “The people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have rejected the unconstitutional and undemocratic decisions of August 5, 2019, and on June 04, the whole world will get a message that these decisions are unacceptable to all of us.”
He added, “BJP has not only abolished Article 370 and 35A but these people also want to destroy the constitution of the country. These people want to see one colour in the country which is a threat to the integrity and freedom of the country. The BJP government could not give any kind of relief to the people in 10 years. That is why today the leading leaders of this party have been forced to seek votes by spreading religious hatred.”
“National Conference has been raising its voice against this injustice at every stage and it is the responsibility of the people here to ensure the success of the candidates of the National Conference to give strong representation to the voice of the people here,” Farooq said.
