Conflicts are taking the toll worldwide and types of these conflicts are mainly classified as natural or man-made. The natural conflicts include tornados, earthquakes, fires, floods that take place due to natural disturbances but the worst challenge is being faced by the man-made conflicts that have an immense effect on human lives for generations. The reason being that natural conflicts can be mitigated with technological advancements and scientific predictions. The man-made conflicts usually have political dimensions and are guided by radicalisation and indoctrination based on religious motivations. These conflicts lead to refugee problems making people abandon their indigenous homeland to secure refugee in safe places. It is in this connection that on 20th June every year the United Nations honours the refugees all over the globe by prompting the people and the nations to observe this day as the World Refugee Day. It is meant to uphold the human rights of the refugees by honouring their strength and courage. The motive is to show solidarity with them and appreciate their courage and to escape conflict and persecution. This day is meant to shed light on the rights, needs and dreams of the refugees and to help mobilise the political will and resources in order to develop the ecosystem that these persecuted people can survive and thrive. This has been stated by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees(UNHCR).The main thrust of this day is to invite the international gaze towards the plight of the refugees of many hues. Describing the genesis of the World Refugee Day, the UNHCR states “ World Refugee Day was held globally for the first time on 20 June 2001 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. It was originally known as Africa Refugee Day, before the United Nations General Assembly officially designated it as an international day in December 2000.”It is pertinent to mention that the World Refugee Day is observed by organising a variety of events across the globe and it includes the inclusion of the refugees, host communities, government officials, school children and celebrities. The theme of the World Refugee Day 2025 is to show solidarity with refugees, honouring their stories and showing unwavering support to their plight.making it abundantly clear as to what it means by solidarity with the refugees the UNHCR states that the true solidarity with refugees begins with actions. Welcoming a rpolicies that protect and support people forced to flee. Sharing and family or offering your time for them or providing them a job to help them rebuild lives counts. In Jammu and Kashmir we too have a refugee crisis that needs to be addressed so that policies for lasting peace and harmony are put in place. The internal displacement of the Kashmiri Pandit refugees within the boundaries India qualifies them to be the Internally Displaced People(IDP) who have not crossed the boundaries of their nation. On this World Refugee Day the Government of India needs to take stock of their plight and ensure that their religious cleansing is ended and their homeland restored by addressing the causes of their genocide in terms of humanitarian considerations by initiating a debate in the Parliament on the Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Bill that is already in the public domain from 2020.It has also been presented to the parliamentarians. If passed and put in place then it can indeed ensure that future genocides and atrocities of innocent communities are not allowed to happen.
