Jammu, Oct 07: Asking Jammu and Kashmir Government to rectify “improper” teacher-student ratio in Government schools of Jammu and Kashmir, state spokesperson and senior leader of AamAadmi Party (AAP), NirmalMahna said that Government should shuffle all the influential teachers sitting at same place since years so that a similar yardstick is followed for all.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, NirmalMahna said that education sector is one of the most important sectors in society as education is considered as backbone of society and shapes the future of youth.
She said that an improper teacher student ratio in Government schools is a serious cause of concern and the condition is improper to such an extent that in some schools eight to ten teachers are posted against twenty to thirty students whereas in some schools only two to three teachers are posted against hundreds of students.
“The government should devise an immediate policy for making proper the ratio of teacher student in Government schools which is also mandatory as mentioned in different provisions of Government,” Mahna said.
She further said that several influential teachers have been sitting at a single posting for years and are enjoying their posting getting immune to transfers and School Education Department is not taking risk to shuffle these influential faces which is further disturbing teacher student ratio in schools.
The AAP state spokesperson further said that teachers engaged under special packages are on protest for more than four months but no one in Government quarter is bothering to meet them leaving them in a state of helplessness.
“Teachers are future shaping stakeholder of society but they are on dharna since long and no is even bothering to meet them,” she said.
Mahna further lambasted Jammu and Kashmir Government for burdening teachers with extra works other than teaching which badly affects teaching learning process in schools.
“Teacher works as BLOs, census data collectors while many teachers are also assigned clerical works in the department whereas many are attached as wardens and deputy wardens in Government hostels and this all burdens a teacher with other works who otherwise is recruited for job of teaching,” NirmalMahna said, asking Government to frame a policy for complete prohibition on assigning extra duties to a teacher.
