Pulwama, March 27: The residents of Barsoo village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have appealed to the authorities to macadamize the village road and construct a drain in the area.
Barsoo village falls on National Highway 44, around 4 kilometers from the historic Awantipora town.
Adil Manzoor, a local of Barsoo, said that a U-shaped 3-kilometer road connecting their village with the National Highway 44 is in a bad shape. “The road was macadamized by R&B Department some 12 years ago; since then, it has suffered a lot of wear and tear,” he said, adding that the blacktopping has erased at many places and the road has developed many potholes.
The locals said that a drain running parallel to the road is defunct. “It often remains clogged and runoff of rainwater from the drain gets filled into the potholes of the road,” they said, adding that the commuters face inconvenience during rains.
“We want blacktopping of this 3-kilometer-long interior road along with a proper drainage system in the area,” they said.
The locals said they have brought the issue to the notice of R&B authorities but to no avail. They have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter.
Assistant Executive Engineer Pampore, Mushtaq Ahmad said they have submitted a proposal under NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) for the interior road in Barsoo village. “We hope it gets approved soon,” he said.
