Pulwama Gymkhana lift Shahoora T20 Cricket Cup

Pulwama, Dec 24: Despite the bone-chilling cold, the cricket fever is up in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. On Saturday the summit clash of the Shahoora T20 Cricket Tournament between Pulwama Gymkhana and Maspuna Reds here at Sports Stadium attracted a fair number of spectators.
Playing to its name, Pulwama Gymkhana dominated the game throughout the match and in a one-sided clash, they defeated Maspuna Reds by 6 wickets. After batting first, Maspuna Reds set a target of 93 runs for the opposite team. They lost wickets at regular intervals and were all out in 19 overs. From Maspuna Reds, Mehran Lefty and Abid were the top scorers making 20 and 19 runs respectively. Iqbal of Pulwama Gymkhana clinched 5 wickets while Shabir got 2 wickets.
Gymkhana Pulwama chased the target in 18 overs for which they lost 5 wickets. Danish made 22 runs from 22 balls while Irshad scored 21 runs off 36 balls. Farooq of Maspuna Reds claimed 2 wickets while Yawar, Basit and Owais got one wicket each. Iqbal of Pulwama Gymkhana was adjudged Man of the Match while Muneeb Yusuf was awarded Man of the Series.
The Shahoora T20 Cricket Tournament, which started on 25 October 2022, was played on a knockout basis in which around 24 teams participated. The tournament was organized by Bahari Adab Shahoora in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports Pulwama and District Administration Pulwama.
Chairman Municipal Council Pulwama Bilal Ahmad Rather, who was the chief guest during the summit clash, distributed prizes among the winner and runner-up teams.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion were District Youth Services and Sports Officer Pulwama Syed Noor ul Haq Indrabi, Dr Raof Ur Rafiq, activist and cricket promoter, Ali Mohammad, retired education official, Bilal Hameed Shahoori, organizer and Abdul Rasheed Shahoori.
