Srinagar, Apr 30: Continuing with its endeavour to build national and international connect, Faculty of Forestery SKUAST-K organised a talk by international expert. Prof.Anton Shkarubafrom Estonian University of Life Sciences delivered an open that focussed on Opportunities and Challenges in Urban Greening and Nature Based Solutions under Erasmus+ funded URGENT project. The program was attended by the doctoral, masters and undergraduate students of the Faculty of Forestry. Such programs have received a major boost envisioning the efforts of Prof. NA Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K for global recognition.
Dr. Anton spoke about ecosystem disservices and inclusive urban development, using examples from India, Mongolia, and Europe. Students actively took park in a group-based exercise on ecosystem services and disservices allowing students to contextualize the concepts within different geographical and socio-economic contexts. Ruthi Veibiakkim, a doctoral student from Estonian University of Life Sciences also steered the group discussion that fall within the research work of her ongoing doctoral program.
Prof. SA Gangoo, Dean Faculty of Forestry welcomed the speaker and discussed about the prevailing education system while encouraged the students take advantage of such events. Dr. Akhlaq Amin Wani, Prof. & Head, Division of NRM SKUAST-K coordinated the whole event and gave an overview of the proceedings of the event. Among others who participated in the event included Dr. Aasif Ali Gatoo, Dr. Shah Murtaza Mushtaq, Dr.Amerjeet Singh, Dr.Peerzaada Ishtiyaq, Dr. Megna Rashid, Dr. Maqbool Rather, Dr. Tahir Mushtaq, Dr. Iqbal Jeelani were among other others who attended the program.
