Jammu, Aug 10: In a significant development, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) PK Pole has officially communicated to the State Informatics Officer about the forthcoming elections for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Scheduled to take place in September, these elections encompass crucial bodies which includes Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
The Chief Electoral Officer has directed the State Informatics Officer to update the software of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which was used in the 2018 ULBs and Panchayat elections. The official letter of the CEO addressed to the State Informatics Officer clearly mentions that ULBs and Panchayat elections in J&K are going to be held next month.
“In connection with the conduct of municipal elections 2023, the NIC software used for 2018 municipal elections for randomisation of EVMs and deployment of polling staff needs to be updated,” the letter reads.
The subject of the official letter issued from the office of the CEO is “municipal election 2023-software for randomisation of the EVMs and deployment of polling staff.” “The NIC software used for 2018 Municipal elections for randomisation of EVMs and deployment of polling staff needs to be updated and provide the same to all the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of J&K for its use in municipal elections which are to be conducted in September 2023,” the letter of the CEO further reads.
“A format for collection of employees’ data according to the requirement of the software may also be provided to the Deputy Commissioners at the earliest under intimation to this office so that data is collected well in time,” reads the letter. “The matter may please be attended on priority,” the letter further states.
