Baramulla, August 13: In a bid to support pro-environment initiatives and commemorate 77 years of Independence, a plantation drive was organized on Sunday in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The event, held as part of the ongoing ‘Meri Maatti Mera Desh’ campaign, saw the planting of numerous saplings within the premises of the Open Air Gym at Sopore’s Ashpeer locality.
The collaborative effort was orchestrated by the Municipal Council Sopore and the Sopore Media Fraternity.
The drive, spearheaded by President Musarat Kar of the Municipal Council Sopore and President Suhail Khan of the Media Association, drew the participation of various officials and employees.
Musarat Kar, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the significance of the ‘Vasuda Vandhan’ (Earth’s Wealth) initiative in instilling pride and responsibility among citizens toward their environment.
She rallied for increased awareness among the populace and affirmed the Sopore Municipal Council’s dedication to backing all pro-environment causes.
Echoing her sentiments, Suhail Khan stressed the importance of such endeavors in fostering a healthy society.
He lamented the escalating deforestation over recent years and its adverse impact on both the environment and human lives.
Khan underscored the collective duty of individuals to contribute towards a greener and more vibrant future for the community.
