Srinagar, June 17: Senior vice president of J&K Peoples Conference and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil on Saturday expressed deep concern over the shortage of drinking water facilities in Tarzoo Sopore which he said had forced the women of the area to come out on the streets to protest.
Vakil fully supported the protesters and expressed solidarity with them. “It is an utter disgrace for the UT administration that the people have to protest in order to get basic facilities especially drinking water. Water is a basic need, so it is horrifying that people are made to suffer because the concerned department was ineffective.”
He urged the administration to address resident complaints in order to put an end to their suffering during this scorching summer.
Vakil said the lack of basic facilities is a fundamental issue that needs to be addressed by the concerned authorities. The shortage of drinking water, poor drainage facilities, and dilapidated roads in the area is a matter of grave concern, he said.
“People’s concerns would have been heard and issues would have been resolved right away if there had been a people’s government. The present dispensation must pay attention to the worries of its people, make sure they have access to the basic amenities and take necessary steps to enhance their quality of life,” he added.
