Jammu, Sept 28: S. Manjit Singh, the Apni Party’s candidate for the Vijaypur Assembly constituency and former minister, said on Saturday that the people of Vijaypur have decisively rejected the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “divisive agenda” in the ongoing election campaign.
Addressing several public meetings, Singh criticised the BJP for failing to discuss development or employment, saying, “The NBJP has failed to convince the people. The party is not talking about development or employment. It has again adopted its agenda of division that is not being supported by the people.”
He said the meetings have garnered significant support across various communities, regardless of caste, colour, creed or religion. “The people have suffered over the past ten years. These elections provide an opportunity to elect a government that prioritises development and employment. Unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Vijaypur, has reached alarming levels,” he said.
Manjit urged voters to choose candidates committed to justice for all, saying that the electorate is fed up with the BJP’s divisive tactics. “People want their local issues—development, basic amenities, and employment concerns—to be addressed,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to the community.
Asserting that the Apni Party is committed to intensifying its fight against the UT status, he said the party believes in the restoration of full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir and the restoration of all the constitutional rights to an elected government of the erstwhile state to empower the democratic institutions.
“The democratic institutions have weakened with the decision that the LG will be more powerful than an elected government in Jammu & Kashmir. The government, whosoever comes to power, will not be able to work for the welfare of the people if the LG continues to enjoy more powers than an elected government. Therefore, the decision must be reviewed in the interest of strengthening the democratic institution,” he said.
Singh expressed confidence in the growing enthusiasm among the public, highlighting the impressive turnout at rallies and the support for the Apni Party. “The community believes that local resources, employment, land and tourism can be best protected in their interest,” he added.
